Queen Anne Historical Society Receives Grant from
The National
Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of
Washington
In February the Society received an
invitation-only application for a grant from the Colonial
Dames of
America in the State of Washington. A grant request
to help fund a Queen Anne Landmarks Recognition project
was submitted
in March. Last month, Landmarks/Preservation Chair
Char Eggleston received notice that a $3,000 grant from the Colonial
Dames had been awarded to help fund Phase I of
the project.
The project goals are to increase awareness and
appreciation of historic
properties in the Queen Anne Hill community and to foster
a culture in which preservation of historic properties is valued
and promoted.
The project will involve identification of specific landmarked
properties, outreach to owners to discuss their historic
status,
and development of text that describes their significance.
With owners' approvals, cast bronze plaques will be purchased
and
mounted on National Trust, Washington Trust and Seattle City
landmarked properties throughout the Queen Anne community. Queen Anne Historical
Society volunteers will administer the project and undertake
the necessary research, writing, and outreach, along with
installation
of the plaques on properties where they can be seen and read
from public sidewalks and rights of way. Phase I of the
project is planned
to be finalized in April 2008.
The grant application was completed
by Leanne Olson with technical assistance from Bruce Jones.
We would like to extend our appreciation to Susan Boyle
of BOLA Architects
for her valuable input and assistance.
