Preparations for the grand opening of lower Queen Anne's Counterbalance
Park: An Urban Oasis, on Saturday, July 19, 2008. The park is at
the intersection of Queen Anne Ave. N. and Roy St.
John Gessner at the Uptown Alliance booth at the park opening.
Jean Sundborg, master of ceremonies for the day's
events, prepares to introduce Mayor Greg Nickels, State Senator
Jeanne Kohl-Welles, County Councilman Larry Phillips and Seattle
Parks Superintendent Tim Gallagher.
Raj Shah, at the microphone, is backed up by his
family. The Shah brothers, Raj and Akhil, were major contributors
to the park's funding drive, contributing $225,000 to the effort.
The total cost was about $1.1 million.
Children can find play things anywhere, including
in the crushed granite gravel surface of the park.
